Botox & Dysport Neuromodulators
Neuromodulators are wrinkle-relaxing injections of botulinum toxin – that are used to treat wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet. A minute amount of the neuromodulator is injected directly into the underlying muscle, causing it to relax and gradually smooth out the appearance of the overlying skin. The effects typically last about three months.

How a typical treatment would go

How does it work?
It blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can’t contract. That makes wrinkles relax and soften.
It is most often used on forehead lines, crow’s feet (lines around the eye), lip lines, chin dimpling, and frown lines. It won’t help with wrinkles caused by sun damage or gravity.
Please note: There are 2 types of lines/wrinkles.
Dynamic: means that they are superficial and easily treated. This is when it is ideal to get Botox or Dysport as it prevents the lines from turning into static lines. It is less costly to prevent these lines/wrinkles than to treat static lines.
Static: means that the lines are deep or “etched” into the skin (where the line/crease is visible even at rest), from the muscle movement creating a fold in the skin for some time. These lines require a different treatment. Janette will discuss your options with you at your appointment.
The effects will last 3 to 6 months. As muscle action slowly returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to reappear and need to be treated again. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are shrinking.
We will evaluate your dynamic lines (muscles) and have you contract and relax several times to ascertain the degree of strength or pull the muscle has. This allows the injector the ability to estimate the amount of Botox or Dysport needed. You will know the amount and give us the go-ahead BEFORE we begin treatment. At Millwood Skin Spa we prefer to treat conservatively; meaning that we would prefer to inject less product and risk you having to come back for a smidge more rather than injecting too much and have you not look like yourself. This is a big reason we have repeat clients; we build a relationship and as we learn your specific muscles, we can use the least amount of product to get you the results you want.
